My father is a Vietnam veteran, and I am in awe of the fact that he was a soldier before entering college. Times were hard for him - he went to Vietnam 10 days after his father died, his mother was sicke, and 5 months later, while in the war, his grandfather died.

my father served in the army for ten years, so i grew up as an army brat, moving around a whole lot. he went to Bosnia, and helped with the reconstruction. he was a single parent, so it was hard for him to take care of me. i ended up spending a lot of time with my grand mother in Holland.

My grandfather served in the Vietnam War. I can remember the stories to used to tell me about fighting in the war and how sad his face was when he told me that he killed Vietnam soldiers in the war. My grandfather died of lung cancer when I little so I don't have too many memories of him only of those he told me about the war. His sister, my aunt, also in military served as a nurse in the Vietnam War. She never wanted to discuss her involvement in the Vietnam War, she only said the stories are too horrible to tell.

Throughout a majority of my childhood, my father served his duty to the United States Airforce. Watching him leave overseas was difficult, especially as a child, but his lifetime experience was needed. My fater was an important asset to the Airforce.
